Daystate Doubles Down on Bullpups with the Renegade
Daystate’s second foray into the ever growing Bullpup market is the Daystate Renegade. This premium PCP air rifle is the result of fan requests, and takes many of the innovative features of the pioneering Daystate Pulsar and adopts them into a more traditional package.

Hybrid Trigger Unit – Mechanical meets Electronic
The inclusion of the Daystate Hybrid Trigger Unit results in the Renegade having one of the most amazing triggers of any Bullpup Airgun I’ve had the opportunity to shoot, and even rivals that of some of the entry to mid-range PCP target rifles I’ve shot. A 2 stage adjustable mechanical trigger is joined to an electronically controlled sear release in the back of the rifle, resulting in a highly adjustable and sensitive trigger in what is normally a not-so-forgiving Bullpup platform.
Shooting Consistency and Power
With a 300cc air cylinder at a 230BAR fill in an unregulated rifle, I was not expecting to be overly impressed with shot to shot consistency. Boy was I ever wrong! The Daystate Renegade uses Daystate’s patented Harper Sling Shot Hammer system. This resulted in a 60+ shot count in a shot string with a 4.73% or 32.36FPS spread over the entire string. Eliminating the first and last 10 shots resulted in a solid 40 shot string with a 1.6% extreme spread, an amazing achievement for an non regulated rifle! Average shot power was right under 33FPE in the .22 caliber model tested, shooting 21.14g H&N Baracuda pellets.
I’m not going to even bother posting any of the pictures of the 25 yard groups with this rifle. The 50 yard groups were astoundingly good. Over the course of a 4 hour shooting session at the local range, I tested a number of different pellets. Most were 10 shot groups minimum. The first however was my initial test group at 50 yards. This was a 60 shot group at 50 yards off of a benchrest. Click on the pictures for full size versions.
This is the first Daystate I’ve had the opportunity to review, and I have to admit to being amazingly impressed. The quality of the rifle is amazing. The shot to shot consistency coupled with the accuracy and amazing trigger make this one of my favorite air rifles to date. This ultra premium rifle does not fail to deliver, and would make a great flagship member of any serious airgunner’s collection.
The only negative I had with the rifle was the placement of the cocking lever. I would have loved to have seen something more mid-rifle, similar to how many of the newer Bullpups are being designed. While a matter of personal preference, it is one of the small touches I’ve grown to appreciate.
